Hotlink Youth Club prepaid vs Digi D’Campus
Recently, I overheard and get to know of the existence of Hotlink Youthclub prepaid plan. The benefits and call rates of this youthclub hotlink plan has really attracted by attention although as a loyal Digi Postpaid customer. It prompted me to buy a new Hotlink Youthclub prepaid number from Maxis.
Why so?? SEE this extracted details from Hotlink:
What do you think if you are 25 years old and below?
My reasons is of course(Onnet-Maxis-Maxis; offnet-Maxis-others):
- The low rates of 12 cents/mins (onnet) and 15 cents/mins (offnet) . (Why is it lower than my Digi postpaid 13 cents to all networks for prepaid and for onnet?) *
- The low rates for SMS with only 1 cent/sms and 5 cent/sms !!!!! ( Digi Postpaid 7cents/sms and 15cents/sms-big different!!)
- 3G rates the same with Voice call rates.
- Validity up to 4 years with only RM10 reload every year and I bet that is easy to achieve.
- An alternative number and can use for 3G voice call whereby Digi needs to pay an addon fees.
*30seconds call block charge same as Digi call block charge
Let’s take a look of Digi D’campus add-on feature to the prepaid.
The normal Digi Prepaid without D’campus
So, what you think?
In my opinion, Hotlink Youthclub is still a better no frills youth plans with these comparison in terms of:
- Price of Digi Campus versus Hotlink Youthclub rate is shown obviously quite similar rate but having Hotlink the winner.
- 3G voice call rate services with same price with normal voice call rate. (Digi do not have 3G video call included in the plan)
- SMS having a lower rate for Hotlink Youthclub.
- You are not confined to the campuses in Malaysia for Hotlink as opposed to Digi. But, if you know you will be using it most of the time at the same location. Digi Campus is the better choice as you just have to use a total of RM2 to get free voice call all day after that usage.
Nutshell? I ended up with two phones of two different mobile networks because of the long stay in Digi postpaid number and the new Hotlink Prepaid number have terms and condition after 4 years…..but that will be a long way to go.
Experience Windows Live Messenger with Digi- Unlimited Chat on phone

DIGI- One of Malaysia’s telecommunication operator has promoted a new mobile service for it’s mobile phone subscribers which I think is quite economical for those who spend a lot of time chatting online with Windows Live Messenger. Chatting on-the-go with Window’s Live Messenger that requires a monthly fees of RM 3!!!
Data Charges?
Digi’s advertisement claimed that only a monthly fees of RM3 is required to use the service and no additional data charges with be charged! That means Unlimited online chat to US! <—not sure is it true but will know after i received my bill next month! Until then, i will believed it is true.
What’s the difference between other Windows Live Messenger mobile phone services?
Digi’s Windows Live Messenger services that caught my attention is the waived GPRS/EDGE/3G data charges for subscribers. This is the different with all other types of windows live messenger services. See the below table for more details.

Compatible Phones(*Some Express Music nokia phone may experience problem due to firmware problem)?

How to subscribe?
Just SMS MSN to 2016 (works in Malaysia only) and you will receive a SMS website link to subscribe and download the Windows Live Messenger mobile application software through WAP. After the download, you can open the application and log into the Windows Live Messenger account as usual. You may see a detail instruction in Digi’s start up guide here.
Say no to expensive GPRS charges if you are not on unlimited data charges plan~!
My opinion and experience? Ya, it feels the same with the PC’s version of Windows Live Messenger~! Cool especially when someone message you, you get the same “Message Alert Sound”. By the way, I experience using it with the SE W910i. One disadvantage is that I cannot minimize or multitask when I am using the Windows Live Messenger mobile application.
The end of my Free 10 months Airtime
January 2009 will be the end of my free monthly RM50 airtime from Digi that i won around 10 months ago. How i managed to win this Friends and family contest prize? I remembered it happened when i was working somewhere secluded in Malaysia. I was doing some Network testing in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Never mind if you guys don’t know where is it. It was just a quiet place that need some wireless telephony services. The celullar network there has a pretty bad coverage. However, I managed to received an unknown phone number while performing my work there. I received the call from a sweet and friendly lady on the other line addressing my name. She wanted to make sure i am the owner of the phone number and congratulated me for being selected to participate in this contest. But, first i have to answer a simple question to win the prize.Actually at that moment, i just feel like this phone call is a scam or whatever…. The number they used to call me was a fixed line number and it just did not strike me that i will be that lucky to win any contest. At first, i just seem skeptical on this and kept probing on the caller on their main purpose. After few attempt of questioning, i finally gave up and trusted it was quite a credible source.
The simple question to win the RM 1000 prize is just about ” What is the sms rate of Digi Friends and family ?” For users of the plan, this will be an easy answer because we will just know the rate for our phone bill spending. The answer then was 1cent per sms. I got cash of RM 500 and RM500 free air time for 10 months ( RM 50 for each month). Not bad right?? Haha….never though of being so lucky in my life.
But the surprising part is that, the prize i won is only the daily winner. If I manage to be the lucky winner for the weekly prize it will be @RM3000 then if i was not mistaken. The winner of daily prize may be able to win again for the weekly prize that’s what DIGI claimed. I manage to receive the same phone number again after few minutes but this time i was way out of DIGI coverage…..too bad….too deep in the secluded place. (The number recorded missed call in my cellphone). Anyway, it was lucky already..to win once haha…..not to be greedy though…..but how i wish….:p
Talking about the end of the free airtime.. Maybe i should consider changing operators or plans. With MNP -Mobile Number Portability, i still can retain my number and enjoy other operators with 3G? But, i don’t think it should be done in a rush as i know digi is on the way in implementing their 3G services after much “unfairness problem” in Malaysia of obtaining the 3G license. THe technical team maybe starting their 3G network testing soon on december. Let’s hope it will be cheap then with another 3G player in the market.
