The end of my Free 10 months Airtime
January 2009 will be the end of my free monthly RM50 airtime from Digi that i won around 10 months ago. How i managed to win this Friends and family contest prize? I remembered it happened when i was working somewhere secluded in Malaysia. I was doing some Network testing in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Never mind if you guys don’t know where is it. It was just a quiet place that need some wireless telephony services. The celullar network there has a pretty bad coverage. However, I managed to received an unknown phone number while performing my work there. I received the call from a sweet and friendly lady on the other line addressing my name. She wanted to make sure i am the owner of the phone number and congratulated me for being selected to participate in this contest. But, first i have to answer a simple question to win the prize.Actually at that moment, i just feel like this phone call is a scam or whatever…. The number they used to call me was a fixed line number and it just did not strike me that i will be that lucky to win any contest. At first, i just seem skeptical on this and kept probing on the caller on their main purpose. After few attempt of questioning, i finally gave up and trusted it was quite a credible source.
The simple question to win the RM 1000 prize is just about ” What is the sms rate of Digi Friends and family ?” For users of the plan, this will be an easy answer because we will just know the rate for our phone bill spending. The answer then was 1cent per sms. I got cash of RM 500 and RM500 free air time for 10 months ( RM 50 for each month). Not bad right?? Haha….never though of being so lucky in my life.
But the surprising part is that, the prize i won is only the daily winner. If I manage to be the lucky winner for the weekly prize it will be @RM3000 then if i was not mistaken. The winner of daily prize may be able to win again for the weekly prize that’s what DIGI claimed. I manage to receive the same phone number again after few minutes but this time i was way out of DIGI coverage…..too bad….too deep in the secluded place. (The number recorded missed call in my cellphone). Anyway, it was lucky already..to win once haha…..not to be greedy though…..but how i wish….:p
Talking about the end of the free airtime.. Maybe i should consider changing operators or plans. With MNP -Mobile Number Portability, i still can retain my number and enjoy other operators with 3G? But, i don’t think it should be done in a rush as i know digi is on the way in implementing their 3G services after much “unfairness problem” in Malaysia of obtaining the 3G license. THe technical team maybe starting their 3G network testing soon on december. Let’s hope it will be cheap then with another 3G player in the market.
P1 Wimax-Ignited the age of Wimax in Malaysia
Wimax which stands for Wireless Interoperability for Microwave Access. The first to launch in Malaysia by Packet One offers 4 different plans and packages with speeds starting from 400kbps to 2.4Mbps.
Many maybe confuse with WIFI and WIMAX. Both are different technologies and have a different platform. Wifi networks can be seen in most Starbucks and cafes that provides hotspot to customers. As a home user, a wifi network can be also used to provide wireless local area connection to the house. Wifi networks may or maybe not be connected to the internet but mostly nowadays it would be. Wifi provides mostly point-to-point links. It serves mobile laptops users and also wireless enabled phone or PDA users. The range of these hotspots are limited to few metres from the “Access Point” or in layman term the wireless equipment that the owner installed it. Mobility connection for the wifi connection maybe difficult as the users have to reconnect to a different hotspot each time they cross or goes to another boundary area. WIFI which is not meant for mobile use as it is for point to point usage(surfing on one spot).
Wimax is an alternative to broadband connection. It can serves point-to-point users and also cellular type users. The range of coverage for WIMAX is much more bigger as compared to wifi and the throughput speed is much better. Wimax transmitters will be like those cellular towers or at the roof of the buildings. The recievers maybe ur laptop with an added PCMCIA wimax card or external device. In the near future, laptops may come with the build in Wimax function.
So, the main question is lies on :
Who is suitable to use Wimax?
Everyone. An alternative to broadband connection like “TM Streamyx” and also 3G connections.
Why use Wimax?
No need to find for a hotspot to surf internet. Everyone can just online in the park or in the car. Although 3G and HSDPA can do that, this serves as another alternative.
What P1 Wimax packages offers?
What other alternative for internet services?
TM streamyx, Maxis 3G, Celcom 3G, Digi EDGE, wireless@KL, P1 wifi hotspot, Izzi mobile broadband and etc…
