Satar and Lekor-the local delicacies in Chukai, Terengganu

Just last month, I revisit Terengganu and explore the local delicacy there which is famous for its dried fish “keropok”- Fish Crackers. The two famous delicacies that you can get around Chukai, Terengganu are Satar and Lekor Goreng. I have tried Lekor many times in KL and many other places but the “Satar” was a unique local delicacy. I was intrigue when i first tasted this new food to me.

So what actually is Satar? It is a soft fish stuffing with slight spicy ingredient whereby it is wrapped with banana leaf and barbeque with charcoal. The taste with the special chili sauce is superb. You can actually find this stall at alongside of the road towards kemaman. However, the nicest stall we tasted is a stall towards the fishing village.

Lekor is another local delicacy that is also made of a type of fish which is dried and fried or steam depending on customer preferences. Of course, we prefer it to be fried as it is similar style with how KLites cook it. We did tried both style and found that the ” Lekor Rebus” tend to be more fishy to be eaten as compared to the “Lekor Goreng”.

You can get the local dried fish lekor near the fishing village and buy some raw keropok back to fried. There are many stalls along the road but we went to the so called more famous stall at the end of the village which is the fishing village of a dead end road. Ask the local for directions.

Remember one satar is just a mere one or two mouthful…..you can eat non stop…
