The end of my Free 10 months Airtime

January 2009 will be the end of my free monthly RM50 airtime from Digi that i won around 10 months ago. How i managed to win this Friends and family contest prize? I remembered it happened when i was working somewhere secluded in Malaysia. I was doing some Network testing in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Never mind if you guys don’t know where is it. It was just a quiet place that need some wireless telephony services. The celullar network there has a pretty bad coverage. However, I managed to received an unknown phone number while performing my work there. I received the call from a sweet and friendly lady on the other line addressing my name. She wanted to make sure i am the owner of the phone number and congratulated me for being selected to participate in this contest. But, first i have to answer a simple question to win the prize.Actually at that moment, i just feel like this phone call is a scam or whatever…. The number they used to call me was a fixed line number and it just did not strike me that i will be that lucky to win any contest. At first, i just seem skeptical on this and kept probing on the caller on their main purpose. After few attempt of questioning, i finally gave up and trusted it was quite a credible source.

The simple question to win the RM 1000 prize is just about ” What is the sms rate of Digi Friends and family ?” For users of the plan, this will be an easy answer because we will just know the rate for our phone bill spending. The answer then was 1cent per sms. I got cash of RM 500 and RM500 free air time for 10 months ( RM 50 for each month). Not bad right?? Haha….never though of being so lucky in my life.

But the surprising part is that, the prize i won is only the daily winner. If I manage to be the lucky winner for the weekly prize it will be @RM3000 then if i was not mistaken. The winner of daily prize may be able to win again for the weekly prize that’s what DIGI claimed. I manage to receive the same phone number again after few minutes but this time i was way out of DIGI coverage…..too bad….too deep in the secluded place. (The number recorded missed call in my cellphone). Anyway, it was lucky already..to win once haha…..not to be greedy though…..but how i wish….:p

Talking about the end of the free airtime.. Maybe i should consider changing operators or plans. With MNP -Mobile Number Portability, i still can retain my number and enjoy other operators with 3G? But, i don’t think it should be done in a rush as i know digi is on the way in implementing their 3G services after much “unfairness problem” in Malaysia of obtaining the 3G license. THe technical team maybe starting their 3G network testing soon on december. Let’s hope it will be cheap then with another 3G player in the market.

Genting Highlands 2 days 1 night

The nearer you stayed to a place of interest, the less often you will want to visit that place. I don’t know about you guys but it seem true to me. Anyway, I have just visited the Genting last few days. Although I have not been up there since 1 year ago or more, but much of the things there were seen still the same as before. There were not much drastic changes in the indoor and outdoor entertainment with only minor addition of some new entertainment and shops.

Staying quite near the highland makes me feel lazy to cram with tourist in this place during peak season. I often choose a low season to visit this place. Even though the last few days is considered as a low season, i was truly surprised by the amount of people there. I nearly did not managed to book a hotel for the night. The reason is due to the school holiday week that leads to many school children to plan trips up there for their holidays.

Bus transportation from Terminal Putra (Gombak) was fully booked until 11am even though i reached there at 8am plus. Luckily, we used some other means (private cabs) to travel up straight to Genting Highlands without using bus and Skyway(cable car). It costs us around RM20 per person(4 person in a car) to there (normally will be more expensive on a normal cab/Taxi). Anyway, we manage to reach Genting earlier than waiting for the later scheduled bus that save us time and money. With the bus fully booked, the accomodation in First World Hotel will have the same fate too. Luckily, among us we have friends possessing the Worldcard green card which gives some priveledge to book room for phone reservations for the day.

The WorldCard room which cost about RM270 (low season rate) is much more expensive compared to the normal promotion price rates like Rm38.88,RM 60, RM 90 etc. But the size is much larger and the room is spacious with sofas and large bathroom. For anyone staying in First World, they will know how small a hotel room can go and how pathetic small the bathroom is.

The above image is rate @ RM 120 for normal low seasons. Whereas, at the moment is fully booked which left us no choice to stay in room like the below with a pricey tag of RM270 for low season. But, this is my first time staying a large hotel room in first world hotel where my preception on its room are all small and cramped.

For those who wants to go relax in Genting highlands especially those last minute people like me, it is advised to choose low season with no school holiday time. You will not have to rush with people and any festival holiday time. The rates will be low and no hassle to book for transportation up and down the highland.

Unless, you are filthy rich with silver card or gold card membership for genting. Then, there is no point rushing with others to go up there. I see not much changes there with some addition of entertainment in the outdoor theme park and indoor theme park where 2 years ago did not exist. Other thant that, it is just the normal genting with casino the famous area for people to donate their money to the Lim family.

Normally, i will not be interested to go into the outdoor theme park to play those so call thrilling rides. But, since there is nothing more to do and I have a 30% discount on ALL PASS rides for both indoor and outdoor entry from Digi Mobile Vouncher. I decided to spend my time there with this great savings. A four discounted passes cost RM150 (Indoor and outdoor rides) whereas a Outdoor rides pass cost RM38 each ( RM152 for 4) for weekdays. A saving of RM2 with more things to play. But, to think of it deeply, they actually work it out to force people buy the all park entry and eventually spend more later cause of human nature. In the point of a consumer, we still save a RM2 and get the best of both world (Indoor and outdoor).

Why do i say you will spend more?

This is because the fun and interesting rides and games where not included in the all pass band. We have to cough out more money to pay for it to play the games. Archeries, Snowworld, haunted house, Ripley’s , Laser Motion ( new attraction where you go in and avoid the laser alarm like in some thief robbing a muzium), Rock Climbing, bowling, Flying Coaster, Sky venture and so on. All the mentioned games has to be charged for entry that is where they earn back from those people who don’t go to casinos.
