RSS-What is It?

What’s the trend now??? Yes…RSS stands for Rich Site Summary(RSS 0.91) or Really Simple Syndication (RSS2.0). Yah~ as the name explained it…it is the Site summary for lazy people or busy people. The symbol as shown at the left which signifies that that site has the ability to let you subscribe to its contents.

But, before i go any further on this. Let’s see what is all this RSS about anyway…

Let’s make it simple. Its a subscription link that a website or blogs have for internet users like us to “connect” to it. But, we must have a “Reader” to keep all this subscription links so that we can keep  tracks on its updates and organize it as we like.

Example??

Its just like we subscript to the newspaper. We may choose to subscribe to The STAR because we likes the contents and may also subscribe to magazine like PC Mag. The magazine or newspaper company will issue you the magazine whenever there’s a new issue. Of course, for this you have to pay for the period of subscription.

RSS-In Summary

Likewise, for subscription in RSS sites(most of blogspot and site has it). We don’t have to pay for it and most of the online reader is free. For example, Google readers, bloglines, or Newsfox (addin for firefox browser). If you have a GMAIL account you can try it now…its simple 1 2 3…..

Benefits???

For people who are lazy to remember their favourite friend’s blogs and websites. Other than that, for those who do not want to visit their favourite site everytime to check if there is an update. This is because the “Reader RSS” will updates itself if there is any new entry of post in the website or blogs.

How to get started? How to use it?

You may try on my site or any blogs you may think of. By using google reader as a guide and assuming you have a google account. If you do not have a google account then you may try on other readers like newsfox(firefox add ons) or bloglines. ( Click here to do a add-ons for your firefox browser-search for the word “newsfox” and download it)

For this post, i will focus on using google reader. If you log into your google account, you can see the top left corner having links to a “reader”. Click on it and this will be your google reader.

Alternatively, you may click here to log in or you may click on the subscribe feeds of my website to test as shown on the picture below. The “+google” image is situated on the right sidebar under Subscribe feed title.

Next step, you may see this image below. Please choose the right “Add to google reader” for this test and you will be ask to log into your google account. After you have done logging in, you will be at the google reader page.

The page below  will be seen after you logged in.

Thus, you will see the sites you added as in the yellow circle. You may choose either to view it in expanded view which view the way the website is or in the list view as shown in the image above. You can see it is updated everytime a new post is added and is bold if it is unread.

Want to add more??

Just click on the red circle button: ” Add subscription”. Just type in your friend’s blogs or website. Google will help you find the exact RSS link for that website if it has the RSS function. You may try like ” XXYZ.blogspot.com” xxyz as in your friend’s blog name and once it returns the result just add it and you will be subscripbed to it.

Want to delete subscribtion?

Just click on the “manage subscription” below the yellow circle and a new page will load. Tick on the name of the blog or website you want to unsubscribes and click on the “dustbin” symbol. ANd there goes the subscription to the bin….

Finally?

Subscribe this blog and dont unsubsribe it…thx..:p

MNP-Mobile Number Portability

Mobile number portability(MNP) has been introduced by Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC) of Malaysian Government. Mobile users of Klang Valley of Malaysia can starts to reserve their mobile numbers to switch between different operators.

What is this MNP all about?

It is just a service that allows mobile users to switch networks(operators) without changing their mobile numbers. (lets say change celcom to digi; or digi to maxis)

Currently, it offers only to prepaid mobiles users but postpaid users can starts enjoying this service after two weeks later. Of course, there is a fee charge by operators if anyone wants to switch to other operator and retained their mobile numbers. Many other countries like Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, UK and etc has implemented this facilities long time ago. Now, Malaysian can enjoy opting for their favourite good price operator without worrying of informing their contacts of their number changed.

What’s the advantage?

Users can shop for the best plan :p and would not be reluctant to change numbers because of the worry on informing their contacts.

What’s the disadvantage?

Users no longer know the prefix is from which networks(operators). Some operators charge offnet and on net charges differently. Meaning charging higher rates for different operators. (Example: Maxis call celcom (off-net)higher rate than Maxis call maxis (on-net)). Thus, Choose the simple plan…so no worries rite??

When will it be fully launch?

According to the star, by end of October(whole malaysia). By september is only for Klang Valley.

P1 Wimax-Ignited the age of Wimax in Malaysia

Wimax which stands for Wireless Interoperability for Microwave Access. The first to launch in Malaysia by Packet One offers 4 different plans and packages with speeds starting from 400kbps to 2.4Mbps.

Many maybe confuse with WIFI and WIMAX. Both are different technologies and have a different platform. Wifi networks can be seen in most Starbucks and cafes that provides hotspot to customers. As a home user, a wifi network can be also used to provide wireless local area connection to the house. Wifi networks may or maybe not be connected to the internet but mostly nowadays it would be. Wifi provides mostly point-to-point links. It serves mobile laptops users and also wireless enabled phone or PDA users. The range of these hotspots are limited to few metres from the “Access Point” or in layman term the wireless equipment that the owner installed it. Mobility connection for the wifi connection maybe difficult as the users have to reconnect to a different hotspot each time they cross or goes to another boundary area. WIFI which is not meant for mobile use as it is for point to point usage(surfing on one spot).

Wimax is an alternative to broadband connection. It can serves point-to-point users and also cellular type users. The range of coverage for WIMAX is much more bigger as compared to wifi and the throughput speed is much better. Wimax transmitters will be like those cellular towers or at the roof of the buildings. The recievers maybe ur laptop with an added PCMCIA wimax card or external device. In the near future, laptops may come with the build in Wimax function.

P1Wimax Homepage

So, the main question is lies on :

Who is suitable to use Wimax?

Everyone. An alternative to broadband connection like “TM Streamyx” and also 3G connections.

Why use Wimax?

No need to find for a hotspot to surf internet. Everyone can just online in the park or in the car. Although 3G and HSDPA can do that, this serves as another alternative.

What P1 Wimax packages offers?

What other alternative for internet services?

TM streamyx, Maxis 3G, Celcom 3G, Digi EDGE, wireless@KL, P1 wifi hotspot, Izzi mobile broadband and etc…
