Powweb Hosting Intro

Just started on this web hosting company recently. It took me few days to acquire the account because i opted to use the paypal method which slowed the process of transactions. I managed to get a cheaper rate than the promotional rate now because for the special promotion for june then.

Powweb

As i already hosted a blog with this powweb hosting that is this site. It took me about few days to be familiarize with the cpanel and the functions that i want to use for hosting this blog. But really thanks to the support forum and prompt action by the staff of powweb last few weeks.

My first experience with it was a bit confused then, this is because i purchased a package with my domain name and webhost with them. But when i first log into the account, i found out that my free domain name has not been attached with my account. Thus, i enquiried about it with the support staff and they responded to me quite promptly and registered the domain name for me.  Except for the slight problem with domain name everything seem fine as i can do my basic stuff of hosting this blog, ftp, email and a website.

But, it is still quite early to give full comment on it till later on after using it for a longer period. I will comment on it later on….but still it is cheap and with all the applications and services it provided…that makes me go for it then…i only paid rm175 for it which include domains and web hosting. Rebak Island@ Langkawi Malaysia (LIMA 2007 Revisit)

Langkawi island a.k.a Legendary Island having consists of many small islands around it. One of the many which will be the “Big” Rebak Island. A Marina Resort is well situated at this bay and well hidden there. If it is not because of my work assignment there, i don’t even know this island exist from normal people’s eyes.

I’ve been there three times but never step into this island to check it out. To get to this island is only by boat or ferry from a jetty near Cenang Beach, Langkawi. It took me quite some time to search for this jetty as it is not very common for people to go there unless those that stay at this Marina Resort. After several asking and searching around, i managed to find this jetty location. But as i arrived there, i have just missed the ferry and have to wait for the next hour as there will be ferry service every hour only. There round trip ferry ride cost me only rm5 per person then.

Luckily, there is a small cafe at the jetty area where you can order food and drinks while waiting. As usual, i just bump up there and set up my laptop for my work. Everything were just as calm and relax there, sitting beside the sea, drinking coffee while doing my work. Never did I expect that a series of real action drama erupted after a few minutes. First were a normal navy marine speed boat embarked at this jetty. Then came the screaming and noises of someone drown and need blankets and ambulance. After that, there goes the drama with full of navy jetski with sirens zooming from all direction from the sea to the jetty and later zooming back to the sea as though searching for victims. Ground army in a Humvee and ambulance can be heard from far rushing to this jetty to safe drowning victims.

Out of a sudden, a helicopter just came from nowhere and drop off a medical officer and later landed near the cafe. The heavy military and navy present during this period is because of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aviation Exhibition (LIMA 2007) at December then. Those are victims of paratrooper from the army that is supposed to perform a rehearsal that day prior to a performance during the official launch of the LIMA exhibition. It’s really such a sad case that death has occurred for a performance like that…….maybe they should take more precaution to avoid all this.

Anyway, the ferry arrived after all the incident settled down. I alighted the boat and headed towards Rebak island to do my work. First impression on the entrance of this resort is that it is well situated and protected as it is on a bay. Many beautiful and expensive yacht can be seen parking there. Nevertheless, it seem like a relaxing hideout for holiday maker.

Rebak?
Value for money- Look classy and seem pricey
Environment- great for relieving stress, quiet and secluded
Wifi-yes
cafe-yes
transportation- yes ferry
activity-golf

Passport (M’sia) Renewal Within 1 hour!

Remember those time when we used to wait for hours to get our passport renewed? Having to wake up early in the morning to take a LRT train to the nearest Immigration building in the city located at a walking distance near the DAMAI Putra LRT station. By reaching there around 8 something in the morning, you can see queues already lining up even though the office has not opened yet. I chose the KL branch immigration to the terminal 3 station then because of the convenience of public transport. The queue then was terrible and before you take a number, you have to be pretty darn sure your document is complete and adequate. Otherwise, there goes your long wait in the queue for the numbers. Thus, those days i rather spend an amount of Rm10 for a service provided by those “smart biz doer” near the immigration office there to snap photos, photocopy, fill in, and developed it. To play safe and would not get rejected after queuing for so long because of a minor mistake of the way the Identity Cards is photocopied.

After taken the number, the long waiting part starts here. You have to wait to hand in those documents and wait to pay for the passport. This process may always take up hours of waiting. If the amount of people is average, you may be lucky to finish the process before lunch hour. If not, you have to come back after lunch and continue waiting. The new passport can only be collected the following day if i am not mistaken. But the worst part is, you have to queue to take a new number and wait for the number to collect the passport. And there goes our precious two morning or 1 and half day….

I’m surprised that the great transformation from last time, it only took an hour for the renewal of passport at Sri Rampai Immigration Department(Bussiness Centre Area). Even the collection of the passport is done within the hour. Of course, it is not done at the peak season but it shows that at least “this make some sense”. For those who want to renew passport, my advice is as follow:

1) Pay Rm1 for the form for renewal at the counter.
2)Bring Your Identity Card (need to be photocopied)-services provided by some shop near there.
3) Of course your old passport
4) Passport photos (again taken at the shop near there to play safe)
5)Cash depending on the pages you want to renew (normal-RM300)
6) Bring the completed form to the counter to take a number.
7)wait for number to be called
8)first wait for call to hand in forms & documents
9)second wait for call to pay the passport fees
10) third wait for collection of new passport.
11) Done!

What a huge different from before, and i wonder why that it can be done now but not way back that then. Here is the Malaysia immigration department website to refer on.
